As punishment for his crimes (which included killing <a href="#pelops">Pelops</a>), he was forced to remain in chin-deep water with fruit-laden branches over his head, both of which receded when he reached for them. His name is the origin of the word <span class="italic">tantalize</span>.</p><br/>
