Is there any particular reason this was added? Other than "Pad.ma used to have this" -- before the functionality was generalized in pan.do/ra, and given its own permanent UI element?

This almost exactly (minus the timeline) duplicates functionality that is already present, on the very same screen, in the lower left. There is no point in having the same thing twice, other than to suggest that the regular interface doesn't work (it does though), or to confuse the user. Pad.ma used to have this and it was often requested by active pad.ma users
the zoom on the icon did not make any sense for icons on pad.ma(it is usefull on 0xdb for posters)
