using html5 appcache manifest could be a way to improve loading,

https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Offline_resources_in_Firefox

this way adding ?num to resources would not be needed anymore,
on change the server would update the timestamp in the manifest and browsers would fetch the required resources again.
