1.e., while filter and layer names are plural, wouldn't the key name have to be singular?

right now all layer ids are plural: places, events, keywords, descriptions, transcripts

if this is changed, db needs manual update and other tools (i.e. pandora_client, padma_censor) need to be updated too.
