The motivation is structuring dated timelines in biographies:

2001:  Went to university
2003:  Dropped out of university
       Founded an artisan bakery

I could understand if you'd rather not impose this layout on all Ox.UI users -- but structuring data with dl/dt/dd is better than no structure, and I don't see any particular downside to allowing them.
